Individual Supervision
This can be done either in person if geographically viable, or by telephone or videoconference, if long distance. In the latter, the supervisee sends the supervisor a copy of the audio-visually recorded clinical material in advance of the scheduled supervision time. Then, at the agreed upon time of the supervision session, supervisor and supervisee speak by phone or videoconference, with each of them simultaneously watching videotaped segments from the clinical material.
Small Group Supervision
Each group member receives individual supervision from videotapes of their clinical sessions, with the other members of the group watching and participating in a group supervision process led by a member of the AEDP Faculty. This way, supervisees can learn both from their own supervision and the supervision of others via exposure to many other patient-clinician and clinician-supervisor dyads. These groups tend to develop a culture of trust and generosity which allows the risk-taking of exposing one’s work and which is uniquely suited for optimal experiential and reflective learning.
If you are interested in being part of a small group supervision, contact a faculty member or certified supervisor in your area to see if they have any small supervision groups which have openings. Alternately, you and 2-3 colleagues can initiate forming a small group and then finding a faculty member or certified supervisor to work with you. These small supervision groups can be done in person, and also long distance, by using online learning.
