True Self, True Other, True Other: Undoing Aloneness and Co-creating Transformational Experience in the Therapeutic and Supervisory Relationships

This seminar will focus on emergent experiences of true self and the role of the true other in undoing aloneness through responsiveness to need. Using didactic material and clinical videotapes, we will look at the true self experience as an aspect of core state. Topics to be discussed in this workshop include building receptive affective capacity and learning to welcome and be nurtured by previously avoided emotions; recognition of the self by a “m/other” as a catalyst for self-recognition and compassion towards one’s own needs; core state as an expansive and transcendent phenomenon with associated adaptive relational tendencies for both client and therapist; and the role of the AEDP supervisor as a true other to the therapeutic process.

PAY AT THE DOOR
If you pay at the door, the cost per meeting is $70; $50 for graduate students; $25 for St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital staff.  St. Luke’s-Roosevelt trainees attend for free. You must e-mail to reserve a space.
