The Healing Dyad: Relational Work with Trauma in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP)

an AEDP Workshop at the University of Toronto,

with SueAnne Piliero, PhD

Recent  developments  in  affective  neuroscience, attachment research, and trauma studies describe the ways in which early physical and psychological traumas impact a personʼs biology and psychology, carving their way deeply into both body and brain.

Dr. SueAnne Piliero will demonstrate how AEDP applies these findings to efficient and effective clinical practice in ways that move well beyond symptom management and promote a deep transformational process.

This day-long workshop will focus on both theory and technique, making extensive use of videotaped material to  illustrate affective phenomena, therapeutic affective engagement, and clinical techniques for facilitating and working with experiences of emotion and relatedness. The content is geared for both those new to AEDP and those with experience.

What You’ll Learn

  • To rapidly promote the development of a secure attachment relationship, the foundation from which healing and character change can occur.
  • To track clients’ affective and relational states, both verbally and non-verbally, moment to moment.
  • To facilitate and regulate a client’s body-based experiencing of emotion, with special emphasis on the use of the body.
  • To regulate anxiety, restructure defenses, and build compassion in our clients.
