Joseph A Zagame
Prior to going into private practice, Joseph worked at the HIV/AIDS outpatient clinic at the New York Presbyterian Hospital. He has experience working with diverse populations and individuals of all economic, cultural, ethnic, spiritual, racial, sexual and gender identities.
In his practice, Joseph utilizes an eclectic therapeutic approach deriving from several theoretical models including Psychodynamic, Relational, Gestalt, and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies (CBT). He integrates methods and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to individual needs.
Joseph’s therapy generally focuses on understanding the underlying causes of psychological and emotional issues. He tends to focus on client-therapist relationship, as life experiences and challenges often re-emerge within the context of the therapeutic relationship. Joseph’s style is active and he works collaboratively with clients. His goal is to create a safe, comfortable, and supportive atmosphere in which he and each of his clients can together gain a better understanding of the client’s past and present day difficulties.
