Smyer, Mary
Transformative Psychotherapy is an endeavor which is more than a superficial redressing of our situation. In my work my highest goal is to assist you in a process which has the potential to be truly life changing. I offer a safe, warm, non-judgmental environment where we can meet each other and your experience in a genuine, honest and compassionate way. My approach acknowledges the wisdom and resilience within you and I will encourage you to find your own ground and empowerment so that you can create a life that is in alignment with your truest nature.
I have a Bachelors of Fine Arts from Rhode Island School of Design and a Masters in Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University with specialized training in both transpersonal and somatic therapies. I have received training in AEDP, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Existential and Contemplative Psychotherapy, Sandtray, Hakomi and Babette Rothschild’s Approaches to Trauma.
My practice is also informed by my life experiences a long time student and practitioner of Buddhism and non-dual wisdom teachings, and as an artist, spouse and mother.
