I help you maneuver through barriers to positive self-expression, empowerment and accomplishment of goals while you gain self-acceptance, understanding, and a deeper connection with yourself and others. My approach is warm, collaborative and supportive yet can be very interactive and direct, depending on what is most helpful for your growth. My work is client-centered in that I believe we each have our unique questions to explore and possess the key somewhere inside to unlock what keeps us from becoming a fully differentiated and integrated individual. I integrate somatic and trauma focused modalities with relational and contemporary psychodynamic theories. I have been practicing psychotherapy since 1988. I graduated from the Somatic Psychology Program at Antioch in 1990, and became a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in 1994.Currently, I have a private practice in San Francisco and San Anselmo where I work with individuals and couples. I specialize in resolving the effects of trauma and relationship issues. Since most symptoms originate in some kind of trauma, I treat a broad range of issues including PTSD, anxiety, and childhood abuse and neglect. Through use of somatic methods, I have been very successful at helping people process through deeply held emotions. These emotions are usually at the heart of unresolved issues that keep people stuck. Doing this work with couples is particularly helpful in facilitating couples to establish or re-establish the attachment bond which has often been disrupted. Healing this disruption is, for the most part, what enables couples to resolve their issues. For three years I was the Clinical Director at Woman, Inc., an agency specializing in domestic violence, where I supervised and trained MFT interns, staff and volunteers. I also provide consultation for therapists working with survivors of trauma and domestic violence. I have an extensive background in authentic movement and bodywork (CMT). For much more information and a brief video interview describing how I work, see my website @ traumapsychotherapy.com.
